Almonds Among the earliest cultivated food plants, almonds were known long before the Christian Era in both the Middle East and Southwest Asia. Today California is the main producer of almonds used in the United States as well as providing over half the world's supply. A very firm nut, almonds can be sliced, slivered and chopped commercially. Dry roasted chopped almonds are in an especially convenient form, ready to sprinkle on ice cream, salads, a wide variety of main dishes and even to add a flavorful crunch to hot cereals |
