Brazil Nuts

The Amazon Basin in Brazil is the home of the Brazil Nut. Here vast forests of Brazil Nut tress grow wild in an area 7 times the size of California. Growing up to 150 feet tall, the mature tree has a trunk from 4 to 6 feet in diameter.  The nuts are contained in a large woody pod resembling a coconut.  Inside are up to 20 nuts arranged in sections like a grapefruit.  The amount of nuts harvested depends on world demand and prices.
