Hazelnuts (Filberts) In the United States, the Pacific Northwest is the principle growing area, producing high quality nuts. One of the oldest known nuts, Hazelnuts are mentioned in old Chinese agricultural manuscripts going back nearly 5,000 years. The small tree or bush also grows in many parts of Europe. The Nut Growers Society of Oregon & Washington holds an annual recipe contest and has published a book of prize-winning recipes. |
