Pecans

A member of the Walnut family, the Pecan is the most important native nut tree of North America. Cultivated production is mainly in the Southeastern United States, but more recent plantings have been very successful in New Mexico and Arizona.  The tree is large, growing to over 100 feet in height with spreading branches. In the summer of 1786, George Washington planted Pecan trees at his mount Vernon Mansion. They may still be seen there. Anyone for Pecan Pie?
