Cooking with Sunflower Seeds... A Tip from the National Sunflower Association
In certain recipes, sunflower kernels may turn a harmless light green color. This has to do with the alkaline nature of the ingredients such as baking soda, white sugar or baking powder. To prevent this from happening, simply add something acidic like vinegar, orange or lemon juice, cream of tartar, raisins or dates. The discoloration is not as visible if the mixture is darker in color. |
